Talk and work with Q

Use shared text, microphone listening and voice playback with clear control over each.

Shared conversation and voice are available in Collaborative rooms. Private Q in Interview and Broadcast rooms is text-only; Client Shared Q has a narrower scope.

Give Q a useful request

  1. Type your question in the room conversation and send it. Say what you want to decide or produce.
  2. Include the relevant facts and constraints in the shared conversation. Q uses bounded recent context, not an unlimited archive of everything said.
  3. Follow up with a correction or a narrower request when needed. New accepted input replaces pending reply work; replies already published stay in the history.
  4. For research or a concrete deliverable, review and explicitly start the proposed task. A general discussion does not itself give Q access to all of your private work.

Let Q hear your microphone

Listening may use your browser’s speech service. It pauses while Q’s reply plays on that device. Captions only change the text shown over the video; hiding them does not turn off listening. This shared conversation is not a full meeting recording or guaranteed verbatim transcript.

  1. Allow microphone access and turn on Q listening, or unmute your room microphone while connected to a call.
  2. Check the listening label. It describes this browser’s microphone, not every participant’s audio feed.
  3. Speak clearly and watch for your finalized words in the conversation. You can type instead if speech recognition is not available.
  4. Turn listening off when you no longer want your microphone words sent to Q.

Know what each control changes

If the browser blocks sound, use Enable audio. Muting Q locally does not remove Q’s speech from a room recording. Bring Q’s external-meeting controls behave differently; see its pilot guide.

Know what each control changes
ControlEffect
Q listeningStarts or stops input from your microphone to Q.
Q voiceEnables or mutes Q’s generated voice on your device.
CaptionsShows or hides caption text on video; listening can continue.
Pause QPauses Q interaction on your device. Other participants can continue; this does not stop a room recording or necessarily cancel computer work.
Cancel taskRequests cancellation of your active task. Check its final status before assuming all work has stopped.
Leave callDisconnects your audio/video call. It does not delete saved work.

Keep the audience in mind

  • Collaborative room messages and Q replies are shared with room members.
  • Team Q and Presenter Q stay with the signed-in team in their dedicated room modes.
  • Client Shared Q cannot use the team’s private conversation, personal files or research tools.
  • Personal research is private until you explicitly share a selected result. Review generated claims and outputs before relying on them.

Feature access and limits can change. Check availability and planned work.
